    "Jack Intersections" - Trauma Informed Specialist

    We were invited to review and provide expert feedback on educational resources being developed for youth and educators, with a focus on ensuring that all materials were:

    • psychologically safe

    • trauma- and violence-informed, evidence-based, and

    • appropriate for youth audiences.

    This included the following resources:

    1. Educator Workbooks

      • Resources designed to support educators teaching students how to cope with and navigate life after emergencies affecting young people in Canada, including displacement, evacuation, and digital well-being.

    2. Conversational Videos and scripts

      • Videos featuring facilitated conversations between a subject matter expert and a young person.

    3. Classroom Activities

      • Written, age-appropriate activities for high-school–aged classrooms to be used following the viewing of the videos.

    The Expand Project: Smoking Reduction/Cessation for Queer and Trans Young Adults:

    We were invited to design and implement knowledge products and support mobilization efforts.

    We led the planning of a multi-province promotional campaign with an external marketing partner.

    The project focused on several cities across 7 provinces. Through market research including a longitudinal survey, focus groups, and key informant interviews helped to inform the project activities building up to creating an awareness campaign and affirming services for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals looking to reduce their consumption or begin the journey of quitting.

    ​The approach of the project is to meet people where they're at, addressing the reasons why people are smoking or vaping rather than a judgment or stigmatizing experience. Creating and joining community conversations around mental health, connectedness, alternative coping strategies, and managing stress for example.

    Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Access to Services in Mental Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic

    We were invited to coordinate and offer expertise in community engagement to an urgent research project addressing the barriers for gender and sexually diverse youth and young adults in accessing mental health services and care. We know that challenges and systemic issues were already present before the pandemic and the new reality not only enhanced what folx were experienced but in various ways made it worse. 

    Through this research, including an environmental scan of existing services, a planning committee of community stakeholders, and a design team. Implemented a design charrette co-design program for 40 youth and young adults to help identify what the barriers have been and create adaptations or new programming of an existing model to be implemented by Rainbow Service at CAMH and designed in a way that could be implemented universally.
