Quebec Counselling
In Quebec, counselling services are distinct from psychotherapy, a protected activity requiring a permit issued by the Ordre des psychologues du Québec. The counselling offered here supports coping, communication, and everyday functioning; it is not a substitute for psychotherapy.
Individual
Counselling sessions offer a space to talk through what's going on, build coping strategies, and develop practical tools for navigating stress, relationship difficulties, or life transitions. Sessions focus on support, psychoeducation, and skill-building — helping you better understand your patterns and strengthen the strategies that work for you.
Couples/Relationship
Couple counselling provides a structured space for partners to improve communication, work through everyday relationship difficulties, and strengthen their connection. Sessions focus on practical strategies and mutual understanding rather than individual psychological treatment.

You and your partner(s) are generally doing okay, but something specific has come up; a transition, a decision, a new pattern in how you’re communicating. You’re wanting focused support in working through it.
Something specific in your life right now; a career shift, a breakup, a decision you can’t quite make and you want practical support finding your footing.

No. Sessions are virtual across the whole provinces. Montreal, Quebec City, Laval, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, Terrebonne, Longueuil and everywhere in between!
All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection.
-
For most types of support and approaches yes. Research generally shows comparable outcomes and for some people, the comfort of being in their own space makes it easier to be vulnerable.

Important question! There are many things that go into this. Which may include:
From the admin side:
Are availabilities lining up or does it seem like scheduling will be difficult?
Does your budget allow for the required rate?
From the vibe check:
Do you feel heard and understood?
Do you resonate with how the work together would be approached?
How do you feel your questions are being responded to?
There’s more to this for sure. Though time and trial is also informative. Part of building trusting relationship is to show up and communicate what we notice and need to build that good supportive match.
If there’s anything in particular for you to experience in a session, please share that.

Mental health regulation in Canada is set provincially and territorially, not federally, so the rules governing who can offer counselling or psychotherapy, and under what title, vary by where you're located. Branch & Anchor's services are structured to meet the specific requirements of your province or territory.
